TREADING
& TRUSTING
by Gloria Gantt
I was an unwed pregnant teen who struggled to finish high school. I grew up in the 1970’s, a light-skinned black girl in an all-black (African-American) environment. I didn’t have my own identity because I felt
like I was an out of place puzzle piece. I had low self-esteem, which is ironic to some because I’m considered beautiful, with good hair. I did not consider myself pretty because I looked different and was bullied. I did not have a higher learning education and considered others to be better than me because of the poor choices I made during certain periods in my life.
